Copy Protection Guide

This product is supplied copy protected. This means that a software ‘key’ must be present in order for the product to be run. This key is transferred the first time you start the product.

1stBase uses an activation code to confirm authenticity.

Some older versions of the program use a 'KeyDisk' for this purpose which is detailed here. However the note 'taking care of your keys' applies to both protection methods and should you need to remove or transfer a key then you should contact you support agency for assistance.

About the KeyDisk

The KeyDisk (labelled 1stBase22 KeyDisk) contains sufficient keys for the number of user licences supplied to you (i.e. a five user licence pack contains five keys).

Taking Care Of Your Keys

As the copy protection key is present on the installed hard disk it is important that you do not re-format the hard disk without transferring the key back to the install disk. Formatting a hard drive without first removing the key will lose that key permanently.

Also note that using a backup/restore utility to move the key (e.g. via Tape Streamer) will invalidate it.

Moving Keys Back To The KeyDisk

1stBase has an option in the Main Menu that allows you to move a Key back to the KeyDisk.

Other KeyDisk Utilities

The KeyDisk contains 3 utilities:-
CCMOVE.EXE Allows a Key to be moved manually
CCLOOK.EXE Allows you to check the KeyDisk for the number of Keys left on it.
CCCHANGE.EXE Allows revisions to be made to the KeyDisk. By issuing you with a control code we can add new Keys or change the performance options
You should not need to use any of these utilities under normal circumstances, if the need arises your supplier or support organisation will talk you through their use.
